​Goals/Objectives:

• Increase awareness of the ubiquity and complexity of traumatic exposure in children, adults, families, and communities. 
• Develop an understanding of how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) may affect development and functioning across the lifespan. 
• Explore issues in the diagnosis of trauma-related disorders and the relationship of trauma to other diagnoses. 
• Gain a basic understanding of the neurobiology of trauma. 
• Identify potential developmental issues involved when working with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors with trauma. 
• Explore the three-stage consensus model of trauma treatment. 
• Survey the most common evidence-based treatments of trauma related disorders. 
• Appreciate the special issues in working with complex trauma, dissociation, and maladaptive coping across the lifespan. 
• Learn five trauma-informed interventions that are compatible with a wide range of therapeutic approaches and developmental stages. 
• Practice seven strategies that may enhance a trauma survivor’s sense of safety in your office and clinical settings. 
• Understand the relationship between trauma and resilience; between post-traumatic stress and post-traumatic growth. 
• Develop your own self-care plan to decrease the risk of professional burnout and enhance effectiveness in working with trauma survivors.
