Ashley Davidson: Piece by Piece
Piece by Peace was established by 2 sisters navigating the world of autism together, 1 day at a time! With 3 children on the autism spectrum we quickly began to compile lists and personal connections. We at Piece by Peace aim to provide a central resource database connecting families and individuals with current, readily available local resources in and around Mahoning Valley. We know first hand that a key to resources is awareness. So in combination with providing resources we look to assist in the local awareness through outreach programs and workshops, working together within the community lifting each other up Piece by Peace.
Community Awareness Pledge (CAP) pxpyoungstown.org
Piece by Peace’s, Community Awareness Campaign: As stated in our mission, Piece by Peace sees community awareness and resources as going hand in hand. We want to make it easier for families and individuals on the autism spectrum to navigate our community. We have worked to devise a “Community Awareness Campaign” throughout the Mahoning Valley. The “Community Awareness Campaign” will be a 90 min sensory awareness workshop that will take place every other month and be tailored to varying professions seen throughout the community. Once an individual completes their 90 minutes sensory awareness workshop they will receive a window sticker for their place of business. These stickers will allow families to quickly recognize a place of business within the community as being familiar with autism and sensory processing disorder. The course will have a small fee to offset the cost of material as it will also come with a sensory bag to keep. During the workshop individuals will learn, what is sensory overload, how to recognize sensory cues and also how we can assist individuals experiencing sensory overload. The sensory bag will be covered in the workshop, and this will be a hands on, interactive workshop in an attempt to truly understand how it feels to experience a sensory overload. Each registrant will receive a sticker and the sensory bag is yours to keep and utilize in your establishment when you see it could make someone's visit a little easier. Piece by Peace will also keep a running list of every business, establishment or individual who has participated in the “Community Awareness Campaign” which will be regularly updated on our website, as well as printed in a brochure insert bi-annually for families to quickly reference. Our goal is simple, we hope to make everyday outings easier for both families and individuals on the autism spectrum. Please join us in lifting each other up Piece by Peace.
