Effective Interventions in Treating Clients with Complex Trauma

Workshop Location:

St Joseph Parish-Austintown
4545 New Rd, Austintown, OH 44515

Overview:  This workshop focuses on the most important and most helpful interventions when working with severely traumatized clients.  This workshop anticipates that clients with complex trauma often present with complicated mental and functional problems. Clients may present in extreme distress or severely shut down. They may struggle implementing the most basic resources, following through on homework, and successfully completing treatment plan goals. This workshop identifies many strategies you can use to make existing resources you may be familiar with much more effective in this population. Working with complex trauma effectively requires a trauma-focused lens and the ability to adapt resources and interventions creatively and adaptively as obstacles appear. This workshop introduces many of the most transformative resources that can help clients stay within their window of tolerance and focuses specifically on navigating difficulties that may appear when implementing these resources. Strategies introduced in this workshop to allow clients to work more directly on their traumatic content include: those that help clients effectively manage intrusive symptoms and triggering, developing attachment repair resources for clients with pervasive attachment wounding, introducing initial ego state interventions to help clients more effectively navigate internal conflicts, and starting to help clients make workable sense of their wounding using rapid mindfulness-based memory reconsolidation approaches. This workshop also introduces to participants where and how to get additional training in transformative psychotherapies that will allow you to work safely, quickly, and efficiently with clients with severe trauma.
